not a sleepwalker

"When haunting a giant metropolis, I stay awake all night, although I’m not a sleepwalker, nor an insomniac, nor a night-clubber. I’m attracted to artificial lights, a reflection on a face, a silhouette projected on a wall that turns it into a screen... My photos move away from the reportage to become impressionist."

"Wandering from Paris, Seoul, London, Rio de Janeiro, to Amsterdam and Barcelona, or even Bamako, I find myself divided between the desire to enter into the intimacy of others and the necessary distance that photography expects me to keep."

That's Patrick Zachman's comment on 'Un Jour, la Nuit', a photographic trip to a whole different world that is only some hours away, packed into a very inspiring, surreal and emotional video. It has rather the feeling of an experiment than of an essay for the multimedia department of Magnum Photos, which makes it even better.
