Kafe Kunst Fest V, Dec 13th 2009, @Kafe Kult Munich

this year pedestrian-zone will be a part of it with a project called "2.1". If you manage to be in or around Munich on Dec 13th please come to visit, it's definitely worth it.

find a preview of what we're going to present below. More photos of the project and Kunst Fest itself will follow to give you some impressions. Our project's all around observation such as cctv. being catched on camera with every step you take.

The Kafe Kunst Fest is an artPERforManceFotOfilmCoMix fest with lots of mini-exhibitions and installations, a zine and comix reading room, lots of distros with handmade crafts, comics, records etc., a mix-tape-trade station, an interactive record cover art happening, delicious vegan and vegetarian food ...and...and...etc.

It was initated by our little d.i.y collective which is also running the Kafe Kult in Munich. The idea was to provide an open and free art space for people who love going to our indie/punk/hardcore/experimentalTrash shows and who are also interested or involved in something arty (whatever that is!!) besides music.

At our Kunst Fest nobody has to pay a fee for showing her or his own art (as it is common at most of Munich's galeries or arts & crafts fairs) and nobody has to pay entry for watching all that cool art stuff.

There will be installations, mini-exhibitions, record, crafts and comic distros in the cafè, in the concert hall, in the toilets, in the backstage room, in the sleeping room...and..and...etc....just everywhere in the Kafe Kult!

We would like to build a small community around this, share ideas, do art and basically provide room and space for creative minds.

On DECEMBER 13th 2009 (that's a SUNday), will be the fifth künstFEST at the Kafe Kult!!! and you are invited to become pArt of it...as an artist or as somebody who wants to help us with organizing the kunsFEST.

I had such a hard time choosing the photos for this entry because just every single image in veftenie's gallery takes your breath away. I really recommend you to look at every single photo in his portfolio or gallery... the situations he captures are funny, beautiful, sweet, well-composed, unique and wonderfully photographed. He's close to the people but his photos, but still keeps a kind of distance. Every single picture seems to tell a story. Or maybe more than one.

Lost & Found - Vivian Maier

John Maloof, photographer, bought around 30.000-40.000 negatives and another 1000 undeveloped rolls of film at an auction. At this point nobody knew where these photos came from and who they belonged to.
But when John had his first view on it it was clear that they were Vivian Maier's.
All photos were taken between 1950 and 1970 in Chicago.
John's still unsure what to do with those photos, but he posts some examples on his blog (see link and photos below). He also thinks about showing those to galleries because its clearly that they shouldn't be too unimportant for Chicago.

100 strangers - about anonymity and confidence

I personally don't ask for permission when I take photos of people. So far, they didn't even recognize me or looked friendly into my camera without a word. But a photowalk with my photo class made me think that over. One guy just talked to every person he saw if he could take a photo. Haven't seen his pictures so far but I'm quite concerned they're great... so why don't I try asking people to take photos of them, too? I mean, what's the problem? Actually, I'm not that shy. And I have never noticed people getting angry because of me taking photos of them. But it's that hard to... begin.

Then, in a news article by Photo Assignment, I read about the '100 strangers' project:

The idea is to approach someone you’ve never met before, ask if you can take their picture, and talk to them a bit to get some kind of backstory, and then upload the photo (and a short description of who they are and what you talked about) to flickr and add it to the 100 Strangers group. Then repeat 99 more times.
Not only will get photos of different people in your collection, but you just might make a new friend or two. You can, of course, skip the flickr part and do this project on your own, but you would gain a lot of inspiration from the group.

One photographer who, in my opinion, has brought this to perfection, is the Canadian Benoit Paille.

He himself says about his photography:
Questioning the hypermodern world in which we are living and trying to break this hyper-individualism and the anonymity of the big city. By going into "Non-lieux" (no existing places) (subways, malls, and crowded streets at rush hours...) and by talking to people to take photos, I break the usual way this hyper-modern world works for a few instants. I make real these "non-lieux" by creating an event that the stranger will remember. I choose my models because of the emotional beauty of the instant and not because of their esthetic beauties.

Kimio Itozaki creates so called Fotomos, dioaramas, by shooting from different angles and then assembling those photos alltogether afterwards so it gives a 3D-image.

I visited the Antony Gormley exhibition at Kunsthaus Bregenz.
Antony Gormley is a British sculptor and conceptional artist. Mostly, his works treat the human body, he uses his own body as subject, tool and material.
The wide rooms of the museum offered the perfect place for his works, one room was filled with sculptures of himself, another one with metal circles.
I myself watched and photographed the people in the museum, for example the guy sitting in one corner of the room. He seemed completely anxious and exhausted, and completely lost among all these metal circles... I wonder what he was doing there.

This photo was taken more than a year ago (June 2008) in my neighbourhood

3. Did you went out shooting street that day or did you just have a camera with you by coincidence as you saw it?
That day I went out shooting with my boyfriend

4. What made you take this photo? Any story you want to tell with it?
This man is an artist that was hired to paint an ad for Ballantine's. The campaign's claim is "Leave an impression", and that's the title of my photograph too. This scene just caught our attention, it's not normal to see this in my neighbourhood...

5. How did you compose it? Any post-processing?
It was quite a quick shot actually, I didn't have to move around that much. I think I was lucky, the sky's colours that day seemed to be part of the ad.
As for post-processing: levels, colour adjustments, and some minor cropping.

6. How makes it feel you now? What do you think when you look at it? Do you still like it? Anything you think you could have done better?
I still like this photo, but looking back, I should've taken more shots of the same scene. I wouldn't change composition nor the point of view, but I would've waited for the man to be actually painting.

Alot of use bring our eye to the veiwfinder and then compose and expose or draw your camera to your hips (if you're one of the lucky one with a old roliflex). Stumbled across this video a while ago, Joe Wigfall has i guess a little bit of a unorthodox 'veiw' (forgive the pun) about how he takes his street shots, have a look at the video, gonna give this a go next time i'm out,

And on a side-note, if you can find this book called "Photojournalisim" by Reuel Golden (looks like this )

grab it, found this book in the bargin bin at a bookstore, well worth the $20 dollars i payed for it... it's got a great selection of photo that no words i could type could give it any justice....I'll throw up some photos from it soon.

Two sets caught my attention. they're pretty similiar. both are about subways, but two different cities.

"Metropolitan (Subway): means of transportation, urban, on rails, characteristic of big cities; it joins the urban center with the suburbs and lies on a site that is proper to it, generally underground, on the ground or on an elevated surface. It is thusly defined by the dictionary.

I define it as a place."

the first set is called "Metro" by Marco Simola. There are alot of photos. sure a few not so interesting but keep flickering through it until the end or you'll miss some really great captures. this way

the second set called "My Subway/My paranoid city" by Lui Rincon. The photos were taken back in 2005 when he was visiting his hometown, New York. this way

I went out shooting with my dad that day (I tend to carry my camera most of the time with me specially on vacation)

4. What made you take this photo? Any story you want to tell with it?
At first I was walking then I saw the man just entering the walls of the city, so I decided to take the picture. The story behind would be that I was just looking for people to photograph and I saw this scene.

5. How did you compose it? Any post-processing?
As for the composing I just bent my knees and shot. The post processing was a greyscale conversion using adobe lightroom, I minor changed the contrasts highlights and no cropping.

6. How makes it feel you now? What do you think when you look at it? Do you still like it? Anything you think you could have done better?
It makes me feel that back-light can be so powerful. When I look at it the picture I feel is telling me to take more pictures, improve myself and don't get stagnated. Yes, I like it. While picturing street maybe just take other photographs, that's what I saw in that moment in time. So to do things better its just about moving your feet and take other pictures.

I had some black and white films developped, and these are part of the result. It was really fun to look at the images because the photos were taken quite a while ago, the oldest ones were from the end of 2008. These light/shadows I actually love - they were taken during one sunny afternoon. I had taken my camera to school and afterwards I was walking through the town, waiting and looking out for photos. It was amazing, and if it's amazing, then the photos can't turn out so bad... fun is what it's all about.

Dean Sewell

I cant really say anything about these photos there just far too compelling. This is the work of a Sydney photographer by the name of Dean Sewell who has captured probably the most difficult places in Sydney to take and hold a camera. Go to the site http://www.oculi.com.au/oculi.html click on Dean Sewell then his collection on the block. Just make sure your sitting down. The Block is know as a notorious place in Sydney and as the name suggests is just a city block, it's located only about 10mins walking from the CBD but yet something such as this exists, I guess looking at these photos kinda brings you back down to reality. I would of put more pictures here but alas I can’t, so go to the site and have a gander.

"My first film photography I've posted on here..."

Well, my last couple of posts on here have been about some of my favourite photographers and their influence and inspiration on me, so I thought it about time to post some of my own recent photographs from my Olympus OM-10 which i've had for nearly 3 months ...

The first one was taken at a local pub when I was going thru a phase of loving the low lighting of atmospheric bar/pub shots by Robert Frank and various other photographers ...

The second one was taken at another pub during a nice afternoon drink with my girlfriend ... she's quite camera shy, so rather than just stick the camera in her face, I decided to set the OM-10 to the lowest shutter setting, get a rough focus on the bar, place it on the table in front of me and casually take the picture while she was walking up the stairs ... what I was pleasantly surprised by was the depth of focus, this is one of my favourite photographs I've ever taken ...

The last one was taken at a busy roundabout in Colchester, again using the lowest shutter speed ... my tribute to street photography really :)

I think there are hardly photographers who have seen and experienced as much as Luc Chessex. He has documented the Cuban Revolution as well as the Africa work of the Red Cross. After that, he travelled around the world.
For many years, he has been trying with great commitment to show the poverty and sufferings but also the faith, happiness and daily life of people far from publicity.
Chessex' photos are not technically perfect, but that's important to show the feelinga and emotions of the scenes he photographed. I think his work is really inspiring, especially his works from Cuba.

"In The Beginning...For Me It Was:"

In response to the question "Where did your love of street photography start?" ...

My answer, believe it or not, is Andy Summers ... He's more famous for his role as guitarist in The Police (yes, HE wrote the riff for 'Every Breath You Take'!) but while he was in the band he took photographs of what it was like to be in the band; on the road, backstage, onstage etc.

Well, for a bit during that time, and then mainly afterwards, he did street photography and candid photography with a Leica which I saw and fell in love with (which inspired me not only to look at more street photography, but also to start taking pictures properly) ... then I found out about his influences (masters of the art such as Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Frank, Lee Friedlander etc.) and it grew from there really :)

A little dip into the archivies here for me, but i wanted to post this up, because this is where i fell in love with Street photography/photojournalisim. Where did it start for you?

There are so much I wanna type about but not sure where to start, so this may be a long entry.

Weekend:

the weekend was fantastic, probably one of the better one I have had in a long time, not because it was jam-packed with thing to do or shit like that but I felt satisfied with what happened, what I did and all that hebey-jebey.

so on Friday night I was planning what I was going to do on Sat, I had this grand plan to go to Pyrmont and photograph building and landscapes, but this idea soon changed. Upon my travels on YouTube I came across a documentary, on Photojournalism, this documentary and recent events changed my mind.

Then later on I found a website where these photojournalist all were and there works, Oculi [link]

This type of photography a mix between portraiture and street photography but still having some sense of intimacy and a closeness towards the subject, of a total stranger has made such an impression on me, I dunno why but it just captures me in the moment. Perhaps it’s the fact that they have people captured in a moment of time.

But before all this I thing the spark in the kindling was, and must be Mike Mander ‘s street photos. Now trying not to sound like I wanna get in Mike’s pants and making sure that I don’t come across as.. ahhh fuck it…

Mike’s work on this is just phenomenal and it show me a part of this city that we do see, but choose to forget and ignore, hoping someone with a more generous heart or bigger shovel will fix all the problems with this city. I know I have done it, more times that I would like to admit. SO all these forces and factors press some button in my head, flicked some switch which I am still trying to figure out what it does and why now and all those questions Gandhi couldn't even answer himself.

I said Screw taking photos of well-off overpaid inner-city yuppies living in apartments where weekly rent is somewhere in the $1,550 mark. I went to all the ‘done before’, cliché tourist venues, on a mission. To look at the people who make up this city.

Saturday:

so on Saturday I basically went walk-a-bout, going from venue to venue, place to place looking at what people look at, trying to capture a moment in time, you just can’t do that shit with a photo of a monumental building some 200m high. Traveling back and forth form Town Hall to Circular Quay and all POI in-between, going to darling harbor and Hyde Park and all that crud that a tourist does when they visit this city. I had no plan, just a mission, leave when you have filled all my cards or ran out of batteries.

I noticed something on Saturday, I noticed that the people who walk around this city are just as beautiful as the city it’s self.

Now I’ve been uploading the photos of my adventures but I know that they are no match compared to the photos of Mike Mander and Dean Seawell, mine are pretty poo, I know it , and people out there don’t say they aren’t, I understand why you do but you’re just being nice, not honest, and I want to make my photos better. Or at least attempt to, so tell me if they are poo or crap. That being said, I still will continue to take these photos, that is until someone with a sharp implement or a hash threat come along demanding I cease this at once
Well I’m going to stop blabbering on about me going around the city like a tosser and all my pretentious sounding ramblings of a I’ll informed youth.

Just finished watching 'The Motorcycle Diaries' and besides being a fan-dam-tastic film that i think everyone should get there grubby paws on, there was a final minuites of the film that are well, amazing.

Hello all and possibly good morning. Yes this is I Ben, the newest chappie to join pedestrian-zone here now I promise I will write something with a bit more substance but right now I though I would share with you guys out there some videos, after all there more enjoyable than reading my ramblings. As at the moment, I really have a thing for light/shadow black/white street photos (long term...), I just bought a photo magazine called "schwarzweiss" - "black/white" with a similar topic. There, I found a more than interesting article about Stanko Abadzic. Because that would be illegal (and I'm lazy), I won't scan the article but only post some photos. But if you wish to read the article and don't want to buy the magazine (it's quite expensive), write me a mail and I'll scan the article and send it to you, okay? :)

Robert Frank ...

Well, I haven't posted for a while as I haven't found anything I thought was worthy of posting here, but i'm back now :)

Some of you, being street photography fans, have probably heard of Robert Frank, but if not, I thought i'd post some of his pictures ...

His most famous photography book is "The Americans", which was recently re-released because he got the original prints and re-scanned them to make them better quality ... the book also has a foreword by beat poet Jack Kerouac ... Also, some of his photography is on the front cover of 'Exile on Main St.' by the Rolling Stones ...
I like his photographs ("The Americans" in particular) because there's nothing contrived or 'posed' about them, they're quick-fire shots ... a good example is the one i've put just above, which is called 'Elevator, Miami Beach'.

Well, if you haven't heard of him I suggest you dig out "The Americans", and try not to be inspired!

sorry people for the lack of my posts. I was very busy the last few weeks with work, school and Kafe Kunst Fest. But I'm glad to have everything behind me now, and enjoying my holidays. As well as I hope you're enjoying yours.
Just like Ariane's interest in street photography grew this year; mine did either.
But as not only the last few weeks have been busy I didn't manage to take a lot of photos. And to be honest there's only one mentionable photo.
Taken at Munich Central Station.

It was taken with my Canon Eos 400D. I also got a Nikon F80, lent by the photographer I'm doing an internship at. I did more analogue shots this year, but unfortunately I don't have the money to develop them, neither my own dark room, neither the time on internship. still searching for a cheap possibility. oh well. as soon as I get them developed, I'll upload and of course show you.

My 'séjour' in France is the first time I visit a not-German-speaking country for more than a day, and it's great. Many many photos at the beach because I felt like a tourist and had no fear at all.

End of June is the time of the wonderful Midsummer Festivals and its big fires... to you as a street photographer: Take yourself and your camera to every midsummer fire you can get to, it's wonderful. All the people staring at the flames, and the flames' colours in their faces...

I'm so proud of this photo I had to post it here. Yees, this is street. Nothing is acted.

I buy my own darkroom stuff and start developing my own analog photos. From there on, my street photos are all analog pictures. I collect them in folders and Moleskine notebooks.

Nonfiction is a series of photos by the US photographer Christopher Anderson. Used to reflex cameras, for a change, he used his plastic Holga camera for about 8 months.

"What began as a simple diversion became a sort of therapy and exercise in seeing. Because of the limitations of the camera, I was unable to precisely control composition and exposure. The camera leaked light causing color shifts and quite unexpected results. Photography with this camera became more about the act of making a picture rather then the picture it self, and I experimented with making only one picture of any given situation. Instinct and reflex were the only guiding principles in making the pictures. The result was pictures that were not "about" anything at all but were still, in their way, "true". Thus the title, Nonfiction."

Maybe some of you disagree when I say this also refers to street photography, but I think it's really interesting to see how a photo can influence the world and reach that many people.

"This portrait summed up for me the trauma and plight, and the whole situation of suddenly having to flee your home and end up in refugee camp, hundreds of miles away", Steve McCurry said about the girl in the photo. I think there's nothing more to add.
After being the cover of Nation Geographic's June 1985 issue, the photo became one of the most famous photos all time and has been used on flyers, posters and calendars.
17 years after the photo of the 'afghan girl' was taken, she was relocated and interviewed by McCurry. This occasion was the second time she had ever been photographed in her life, and she hadn't ever seen the world-famous photo of her face.

So... I hope you won't kill me, but I just have to upload two photos which are not hundert procent street... it's more documentary, I'd say. But I like them so much. Because I haven't found them in the internet, I scanned them out of the magazine I found them in. It was the German National Geographic and there was a really good article about China's development during the past 20 years and the contrasts between rich and poor.

Writing in the photo:
A just married couple drives through Shanghai with guests who are in a Minni and Micky Mouse disguise.

Writing under the photo:
Integration against the will: Nomads visit the horsemen festival of Maqu in the province of Gansu. The new settlement (in the background) is part of a national programme that is supposed to force the Tibetans, who have been living as herders so far, to settle down and take over the modern lifestyle.

Some weeks ago, I found one of the most interesting street photography portfolios online.
Photographer Juan Buhler owns a photo blog that is updatet weekly or more often, and a website, on which he places the best photos. On both you should take a look.
The photos are not only in a very good quality, but also I have found some of the most original street photos I have ever seen. Juan Buhler seems to have no fear at all when it comes to getting close to people or things.

"Introducing..."

Well, this is obviously my first post here ... so hello there :)

That's me there, at the top ... some people show their appreciation for bands they like by wearing t-shirts and badges, but i've done that, so i'm showing my appreciation for The Smiths by dedicating the top of my head to 'em!

I love music very much, but i'll stick to photography right now as I don't want to take up too much space :) ... although perhaps it's linked that I got into photography, as my favourite music is that which conjures up imagery :)

I've always had a love of photography, from thinking about the actual 'capturing' of an image, to being able to see things that I wouldn't have without a photograph (i.e anything before 1989 :D) ... but I got interested into it recently after being inspired by Andy Summers' photographs off being 'inside' The Police (the band, not the coppers!)

My current interest is in 'Street' photography, and although the pictures below are digital, I recently got very kindly given an Olympus OM10 from one of my dad's friends who showed an interest in some of my photography I showed him, and i've currently been taking a 'test' film to get to grips with setting apetures/shutter speeds/focus after being used to the automatic settings on my little digital camera ...

I've read from other photographers that film photography is a much different experience than digital ... I just assumed that it was because you couldn't see the image right away like you can with digital cameras (which I got used to quicker than I thought actually!) but it wasn't until I got stuck in with the OM10 that it feels much more 'heavyweight' and there seems to be a much stronger atmosphere and emotive quality than digital :)

Anyway, above are some of my fledgling 'street' shots ...

not a sleepwalker

DDR 1970-1990

Today I found this really interesting set of photos by Ulrich Karl Joho on Flickr. They're all from the DDR from 1970 to 1990. When Germany was parted. Most of the photos are from Berlin itself, but also from Dresden, Potsdam and Rostock.
The photos show the everyday life of DDR. And I may add that those are the most beautiful photos about Germany at those times circulating on the internet, in my opinion.
They were also shown at several exhibitions; last time in Berlin with almost 600 visitors.

I love taking street photos beacause they are always very spontaneus, you won't find the same moment twice, everything is unique.

The Photo:
About the picture. It was taken in Dublín, Ireland. I was walking with some friends, and I was impressed by the morning sunlight on the pavement, so quickly I focus my camera so can get their feet in the composition. It was an spontaneus picture, they didn't notice that I was taking a photographs of their legs.

I do believe in the evilness of Murphy's Law... and when clicking around I found Murphy's Law rules based on photography.
Top five of (in my opinion's) best statements:

- Lenses are attracted back to their source - hard rocks.
Corollary:
The more expensive the lens, the greater the attraction.

- Your batteries will always go dead during a long exposure (so with the shutter open).

- when you drop a lens cap, the inside part always lands face down in the mud.

- The nature shots invariably happen on two occasions:
when animals are ready.
when you're not.

- Photo Assistants are essential, they give photographers someone to yell at

Residence: Currently I'm living in Sofia, Bulgaria. But I'm original from a city called Lovech where I've grown up. Since then I've been living in Amsterdam for a few months and 3/4 of a year in Napoli, Italia. My recent photos are taken on the streets of Sofia. And some of them are from Pompei, Napoli.

The Story:
First I started with street. Because I'm now 3rd year in film school - film directing. So I'm mostly interested in documentaries. So when I started shooting few months ago (I bought my nikon d80 5 months ago) I started with photojuornalistic style and street candid shots. Still loving it. Have been in a studio just twice. So I bought an old russian rangefinder (fed-2 and fed-5) one lubitel 166. A Nikon F60. And Kiev 88TTL. Experimenting with them all. But still am not scanning the results...
Why am I prefering the streets? Because of the candids. Nothing in pose, in roll. Just the truth. The images that are passed by the others. The things that are left behind. Just like an old romantic guy, who is willing to see the ignored one.

The photo:
The photo was taken in front of the national theater in Sofia. Of a girl, who at that moment was with her friends playing badminton. At one point she sat on the stairs and in perfect line between me, her and the sun, that was setting down. I had the Nikon D80 with a 28-105 Nikkor lens. Set it on b&w with high contrast and tones + normal sharpening. Nothing special... just was willing to capture the strange contrast in that girl. The beauty of her face and the oldschool cigaretta look. I took several photos... one other seconds after this is link.

17 minutes is a homepage based on streetphotography - categorized into people, places, signage and pictures with stories.

I'm just an ordinary guy with a camera or two who likes people. The aim of this site is, foremost, to display my work to a wider audience than my family and friends. I hope that the images make an impression, to make us more aware of our surroundings and the people in it.

Many of the people I photograph are marginalised by society, often by dint of their own chosen lifestyle or perhaps just by unfortunate circumstance of life or birth. I hold no pretensions of hoping to change society on a large scale through my work. Don McCullin, a far better photographer than I could ever hope to be, openly accepted his own failure in that sense.

However, I believe that if I can influence just ONE person to stop and look again at a lonely soul on the street and perhaps throw a few coins in their hat, or just to smile and say "Hello", then it will all be worth while.

The jumping soldier

Date: August 15, 1961
Place: Bernauer Straße, Berlin

Background:
A tiny bit of a history lesson, after WW2 Germany had been seperated into four parts, and so had been Germany's capital Berlin. Three of them were affiliated into one, the German Federal Republic. The fourth one turned into the German Democratic Republic, controlled by the Soviet Union, and very far from a democratic state.
Until 1961, however, many people fled from the GDR, and as these people were mostly young, intelligent and important, the gouvernment decided to build a wall instead of just a normal boundary to keep people in.

About:
The photo shows a military man from the GDR who was involved in building the wall - but instead of doing what he was supposed to, he jumped over the boundary, into freedom.
The soldier's name is Conrad Schumann, and the photo was taken by Peter Leibing - both were only 19. It turned to be the photo of his life.
He later said that he "had only one chance to take this photo" and that he waited for, like, hours, just watching the soldier on the other side who looked nervous - and he was lucky with it.

Symbol:
Since then the photo has become a symbol for freedom and the will to risk everything for it.

I was born-and-raised in the South Bay area of Los Angeles but have been living and working in Taipei, Taiwan for the last 9 years. I am a primary school teacher and teach primarily English but also some cultural classes. I try and get back to LA at about once a year to visit family and friends.

The Story:
I don't remember when I "got into" street photography, but I do know that I've always been shooting people. I got my first SLR (a pentax k1000) when I was twelve and the first thing I did was load it with Kodachrome and walk around randomly taking pictures of people doing stuff. When I was in High School I was introduced to the darkroom and started loving b&w, although I still shot color as part of the yearbook staff. Actually, I never took a class in photography but I used my position on the yearbook staff to gain entry into the darkroom and figure out how to do it myself. It took a couple of rolls before I even knew that you couldn't expose film to red light. :D
In college I became the youngest photo editor of the newspaper (I went to college when I was 17 and the previous editor graduated in mid-year) and so I had another excuse to use the darkroom and keep shooting.

After college a need for work and money forced me to give up photography and sell my kit. After I moved to Taiwan I started feeling the need to take pictures again. Being so immersed in a culture so different then the one I was raised in helped spur on what I had been repressing since I sold my cameras and the day after Y2K I went to a local shop and picked up a very used Nikon FG and 50mm lens. I've been shooting continuously ever since, mostly street photos in B&W.

The Photo:
About the photo itself, I love rainy days and tri-x. Nothing beats that combination for pure mood (see link). Crosswalks make it easier as you know which direction people are going to go and they must walk within a specific area on the way.

The Camera:
Currently I use a Voigtlander Bessa R2 and R2A. I have a variety of lenses, but primarily stick to a CV 35/1.4 Nokton Classic SC and CV 28/1.9 Ultron. For 35mm I like Tri-X and PanF the most and do most of my development in Kodak HC-110.

I'm currently preparing a Polaroid Streetphotography Book. - will be shown at Kafe Kunst Fest December 14th, taking place at Kafe Kult, Munich.
I've you've got some time and you live in the near area of Munich you should definitely come there! It's worth a visit.

Well, back to topic.
So these two Polaroids are a preview for the book. They show to typical scenes of Munich.

Left one:

A television crew. We've got several television companies stationed in and around Munich so if you go to the city centre you will always see them. They also asked me a few times to interview me but I always declined X)

Right one:

Munich is floated by Japanese people. They're all walking around with their cameras, trying to get as much snapshots as they can get...Don't get me wrong - I don't think it's a bad thing.
